CadyFest 10.28.23
It's not a funeral...
What is CadyFest?
CadyFest is a celebration of life, wake, music festival… but mostly a party! Cady once said that when he died, he wanted a party where we’d play Jerry Garcia (The Grateful Dead) and Ray Wylie Hubbard (a favorite songwriter from Texas). So we’ll do that, along with live music from his son Jack Evan Johnson, Melissa Jones Auld, and other friends. Cady’s birthday is Halloween, so expect some spookiness. Dress up if you wish.
Where is CadyFest?
CadyFest is located at Cady’s property and quonset hut in Vernal, Utah. The address is 1339 W 1500 S, Vernal, Utah 84078. Click here to see the property in Google maps.
When is CadyFest?
CadyFest is Saturday, October 28, 2023. The party will officially begin at 5 p.m., but guests are welcome to arrive earlier and explore Cady’s beautiful 20-acre property.
5 pm…………………Happy Hour (eat, drink, and be merry!)
6 pm…………………Field Notes on a Life (and what a life it was)
7 pm…………………Music begins (let’s rock!)
Where do I stay at CadyFest?
Vernal is a popular tourist destination, with dinosaur bones, petroglyphs, and Flaming Gorge nearby, so there are plenty of places to stay. Here are a few motel options (all only minutes from CadyFest). Additionally, guests are welcome to camp on the property (but it will be October in Utah, so check the weather).

What will be provided?
Some of Cady’s favorite dishes will be available - including fish tacos, chili, and dutch oven tamale pie. Vegetarian options will be available. However, portions will be limited, so please feel free to bring something sharable. (If you have any questions about food/drink, please text Jennifer at 702-682-5366.)
How can I honor Cady?
The best way to honor Cady is to just have a good time. There will be no pressure to bring anything, but if you’d like to tell a Cady story or favorite memory during the “Field Notes” portion of the event, that would be awesome (there are a lot of stories!). Like Jordan, a friend of Cady’s son, said recently, “Cady had a way of making you feel comfortable, even if you were uncomfortable.” So loosen up!
Any other way to help?
One way to help, is to pass along this info to anyone you think may want to attend. We’ve tried our best to contact everyone we can, but Cady knew a lot of people in various communities - the hydrogeology community, the aviation community, Las Vegas, Vernal, Jack and Rosie’s friends, college buddies, etc. This website cadyfest.substack.com works as a website that you can copy send/text to people, as well as a mailing list that can be subscribed to below for future posts/writings/party updates. (If you got the email, we’ve already put you on the list!) If you have any other questions, call Jack at 702-493-1917 or email jackevanjohnson@gmail.com.
Thanks!!!
Jack, Rosie, and Jennifer
